What to do about a dog with ringworm skin infection? - what does ringworm look like on my dog

My dog had a bald spot that my vet diagnosed with ringworm. He said it is a fungus, and you go, keep the area dry and clean shaven. It seems clear, and terrible. It does not seem to bother the dog just looks terrible. Is there anything you can do (which is not bad for a dog) to heal faster? My vet said there are drugs, but can have side effects and usually resolves itself in 4-8 weeks.
